Steps to Designing an Off-Grid Solar System

solar-cells-824691_1920An off-grid solar system can be a perfect option for many people out there. If you are interested in living off the grid, we highly recommend it, and solar power now makes it so much easier. Keep reading to learn six steps to get you started!

First, you are going to need to figure out how much energy you will need. Will you simply need two panels? Maybe more? Not knowing how much solar energy you will need may result in either you spending way more money than you need to or you being left without enough energy.

The second step is calculate the amount of battery you need. Do this by figuring out how much you need the battery and how often the sun is shining where you are going to be.

The third step is to see how much energy you need to store. After you figure out how much energy you will need, you will also need to see how often the sun is up so that you know how much energy you should be storing for days that don’t have as much sun.

The fourth step is to select your charge controller. To do this, you will need to take the wtts from the solar and divide it from the battery bank voltage. You will also want to add an additional twenty five percent just to be safe.

The fifth step is to select your inverter. The reason this is so far down on the list is because you will need to know the number of panels and battery prior to selecting this. If you simply pick up an inverter without understanding the two previously mentioned pieces of information, you may be needing a new one sooner than you realize.

The sixth and final step is to complete the setup of the little things. Some of these include fuses and breakers, which breaker box you will use, how you will mount the panels, and what size wire you will need.

Once each of these steps is complete, you will be ready to have an off-grid solar system. If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure about anything, contact us today! We can help you design the perfect solar system to help you live off of the grid.
